b. 1971, fashion designer, took an MA in Fashion Knitwear from Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design, London in 2000.
Textiles bored her and seemed too mundane, but she was fascinated by knit-wear and the spatial and sculptural effects that can be created in wool in combination with atypical materials such as metal, transparent wire, cables etc.
Isabel Berglund has never knitted a high-necked sweater. The skin has to show, for it is the visual presentation of the body that is the focus of her knitwear design. She shifts the body’s point of gravity through giant pockets, adds humour with over-length sleeves and highlights the character of the skin with long, bulky cleavages.
Isabel Berglund launched her own knitwear label in 2001, which now sells in Copenhagen, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Stockholm and New York.
